Gelareh is an accomplished Iranian-American Cinematographer and Lighting Designer, known for her outstanding work in both fields. She discovered her passion for theatrical lighting design and cinematography early on in her career while assisting award-winning directors. Since 2004, she has worked as a cinematographer on a wide range of narrative and documentary projects, consistently delivering exceptional results.
Gelareh’s extensive training in cinematography includes shooting on both 35mm and 16mm film, as well as digital formats. She earned her first MFA in Lighting Design from the prestigious UCLA, where she studied under the tutelage of Tony Award-winning Lighting Designer Neil Jampolis. Her lighting design work has graced the stage of major productions, such as The Tragedy of Carmen for LA Opera.
Gelareh’s love for cinematography led her to pursue a second MFA in Cinematography from UCLA. Her technical expertise and artistic vision have been integral to her success, and her work is widely recognized for its visual impact and emotive power.
Currently based in Los Angeles, Gelareh continues to work as a Cinematographer and Lighting Designer, consistently pushing the boundaries of her craft and producing work that is both innovative and deeply affecting. Her unique talent and dedication to her craft make her a respected and admired figure within the industry.
Gelareh joined the ICG local 600 in 2019 and her work in cinematography has earned her recognition as a member of ICF+C, and her exceptional talent and skill have enabled her to create visually stunning and impactful works. Her unique approach to cinematography has made her a valuable collaborator to directors and producers, and her lighting design expertise has been instrumental in setting the tone and mood of various projects.
